The Three Fatigues

Everyone talks about AI fatigue. It's actually three fatigues feeding each other.

The Three Fatigues

Everyone’s talking about AI fatigue. But what are we actually tired of?

It’s not one thing. It’s three. And they feed each other in a paradox that explains why the AI era feels so exhausting despite being so productive.

AI Fatigue: “There’s too much AI”

  • New tools every week
  • Every product adds an AI button
  • Your toolkit changes before you’ve mastered the last one

MBS Layer: Body. The infrastructure is churning.

Decision Fatigue: “I can’t choose”

  • Which AI model? Claude? GPT? Gemini?
  • Which workflow? Spec-driven? PRD-driven? Vibe coding?
  • Should I learn this tool, or will it be obsolete by Tuesday?

MBS Layer: Mind. Too many options, not enough frameworks.

Judgement Fatigue: “I can’t tell what’s real”

  • Is this AI-generated code actually correct?
  • Is this AI hype genuine, or the next crypto?
  • Am I using AI to think, or am I letting it think for me?

MBS Layer: Soul. The existential questions.

The Paradox

Here’s where it gets interesting:

AI fatigue creates decision fatigue (too many tools, can’t choose). Decision fatigue creates judgement fatigue (can’t choose, stop trusting your own judgement). Judgement fatigue creates AI fatigue (don’t trust judgement, offload to AI, AI proliferates, too many tools).

It’s a self-reinforcing spiral. And it maps perfectly to MBS:

Body overload → Mind overload → Soul crisis → Body overload → ...

The Way Out

The paradox breaks when you address the Mind layer first:

  1. One framework, not many tools. A cognitive architecture gives you verbs that apply to any domain. Stop collecting tools. Start building a system.
  2. Structured evaluation, not vibes. A deliberation protocol gives you a method for “is this real?” Stop trusting gut feelings about AI. Start testing claims.
  3. Identity clarity, not tool mastery. A self-model gives you “what is my role in this?” Stop asking which AI. Start asking who you are becoming with AI.

The antidote to fatigue isn’t rest. It’s clarity.

⚛️ The Fusion

The industrial era gave us physical fatigue. The information era gave us mental fatigue. The AI era gives us judgement fatigue: the exhaustion of not knowing whether to trust yourself or the machine.

What to Do Next

Stop evaluating tools. Start building frameworks.

Stop asking “which AI?” Start asking “what am I trying to think about?”

Stop worrying about keeping up. Start worrying about knowing what matters.

This fusion emerged from a single iMessage note: “AI Fatigue vs Decision Fatigue vs Judgement Fatigue. Paradox.”
